North Macedonian food
North Macedonian food is down to earth Balkan cooking shaped by Ottoman and Slavic influences, centred on vegetables, grilled meats and slow cooked stews. Tavče gravče (baked beans) is often paired with kebapi at traditional kebapčilnici, creating a classic and delicious combination. You’ll also find dishes such as sarmi (stuffed cabbage or vine leaves) across the country. One of North Macedonia’s most distinctive specialities is pastrmajlija, an oval, pizza like flatbread topped with seasoned diced meat, unique to the country.
